To kick-start your plan, you may also be prescribed appetite suppressant injections, often known as skinny jabs, by our fully qualified doctors.
The CJA Lifestyle Plan is aimed at patients with a BMI of 30 or more as well as men and women with a BMI or 27+ with at least one weight-related issue such as high blood pressure, type two diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood triglycerides.
What Is The Skinny Pen?
Skinny Pen offers an effective, safe and healthy weight loss solution. Combined with a healthy diet plan and regular exercise, the treatment helps you lose weight, suppressing your appetite by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone (GLP-1) which makes us feel “full”.
It is an effective and reliable medically managed treatment for obesity, containing a UK licensed, FDA-approved prescription medicine called liraglutide – also known as Saxenda. Saxenda works by helping the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high.
How Do I Use The Skinny Pen?
As part of your slimming and lifestyle plan, your CJA doctor will prescribe the once-daily, self-injectable medicine, which comes in a special ‘pen’ filled with a medication called Saxenda.
This self-injected medicine should be taken once a day to control your appetite, curb your hunger and reduce any cravings. Saxenda can be injected at any time of day, with or without food. As long as the medicine is taken once-daily, the injections can be taken at a time to suit you.
Your CJA Lifestyle doctor will show you how to inject yourself under the skin, rather than into a vein or muscle, usually into your stomach, upper arm or thigh. The average monthly cost of these injections is £200.
However, your first step is to book in for a consultation with a CJA Lifestyle doctor. During your consultation we will explain the process and answer any questions that you may have.
Do I Have to Change My Diet?
As the only approved injectable prescription appetite suppressant in the UK, the Saxenda Skinny Pen provides an incredibly effective treatment for those struggling to lose weight, when combined with a healthy, calorie-controlled diet.
As with all hunger suppressing options, diet and exercise are vital to see the best results. Taking appetite suppressant injections will kick start your slimming programme, but a caloric deficit is the key to loss. You may lose calories from reducing your food intake throughout the day, through exercise, or both.
To lose 1lb of fat each week, it is recommended that you lose 500 calories per day, whether you lose this through reducing calories or through exercise is up to you. By following our doctor-led weight loss programme, the CJA Lifestyle Plan, we can equip you with a bespoke nutritious meal plan, exercise plan and general help and advice. Your fee includes access to our doctors for support and advice throughout your journey to a healthier weight.
Reduce your appetite, maintain a sensible calorie-controlled diet and achieve your goals.
Monitoring Your Progress
Your CJA Lifestyle doctor will monitor your progress while using the Skinny Pen. This will allow you to discuss how you are getting on as well as monitoring your change in weight as you slim.
Is The Skinny Pen Suitable For Me?
Before using this medicine you must complete a detailed medical, physical and lifestyle assessment form.
It is important to note that Saxenda is a prescription only weight loss solution so your clinic prescribing the medicine must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CJA Lifestyle is registered with the CQC). You can only be prescribed Skinny Pen by a doctor or nurse with the legal authority to do so.
It cannot be purchased by any individual with a history of thyroid cancer or pancreatitis, as well as anybody with a BMI lower than 27, any patients taking insulin, pregnant or breast feeding women, or anybody under the age of 18. Saxenda is also not suitable for those with digestive issues or if you have or have had problems with your pancreas, kidneys or liver.
Some patients have experienced side effects including
- abdominal pain
These effects are usually mild and will pass in a couple of days, although our doctors will discuss all possible side effects during your initial consultation.
