How Does Mysimba Work?
Mysimba contains two types of medicine, naltrexone and buproprion. These work on the parts of the brain which regulate our appetite and cravings, making it easier for us to stick to a healthy, calorie controlled diet and thus lose weight.
How Do I Take Mysimba?
Mysimba is taken in tablet form on a daily basis. Your CJA Lifestyle doctor will advise you on the correct dosage, which will increase gradually, with your progress being carefully monitored. Your body will need time to adjust to the medicine, so it’s important that you follow the treatment regime set out by your doctor.
Is Mysimba Safe?
Mysimba has been approved for safe use as part of weight loss programmes by the MHRA. You should only take Mysimba under the supervision of a qualified doctor such as those at CJA Lifestyle. We will carry out a full medical consultation prior to prescribing Mysimba to ensure you are a suitable candidate for treatment.
As with any drug, when taking Mysimba you may experience side effects and contraindications (it may not be suitable for all). In particular it can cause dizziness and drowsiness. These and other possible side effects will be fully explained to you by one of our CJA Lifestyle medical professionals.
Is Mysimba suitable for everyone who wants to lose weight?
Mysimba is not suitable for pregnant or breast feeding women or those trying to conceive. In addition, it cannot be prescribed to anyone with a diagnosis of an eating disorder, seizure disorder, bipolar disorder or a history of depression, including those taking antidepressants. It is also unsuitable for anyone with liver or kidney disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or experiencing benzodiazepine or alcohol withdrawal. Our qualified doctors will assess your suitability for Mysimba after carrying out a thorough medical consultation.
What Are The Side Effects of Mysimba?
Your CJA Lifestyle doctor will monitor your progress while taking Mysimba, so it is important you let us know if you experience any side effects.
Some patients may experience dizziness, drowsiness, loss of concentration, insomnia, anxiety, nausea and constipation. Our doctors will discuss all possible side effects during your initial consultation so you can decide if Mysimba is suitable for you.
Will I Need to Change My Diet When Using Mysimba Weight Loss Tablets?
Yes. As with all appetite suppressing treatment options, a healthy balanced diet and increased physical activity is essential to real and sustained weight loss. Mysimba tablets can help to kick start your weight loss, but a caloric deficit is the key to sustaining it. You may lose calories from reducing your food intake throughout the day, through exercise or, for greater weight loss, both.
To lose 1lb per week, it is recommended that you “lose” 3500 calories each week. This equates to 500 calories per day, whether you lose this through a reduction in calories in or through exercise, this is a good rule to follow. By following our doctor-led weight loss programme, the CJA Lifestyle Plan, we can equip you with the knowledge required to lose weight and keep it off, including the importance of wellness and good sleeping patterns too.
How Much Weight Can I Lose With Mysimba?
Everyone is individual and weight loss depends on a variety of factors including a healthy diet and staying active. We will help you to set a realistic target at your consultation, however in general, if you do not lose 5% of your body weight within 4 months of starting, the Mysimba treatment should be stopped.
