Improve Your Mental Wellbeing & Feel Fitter & Healthier on the CJA Lifestyle Plan
Mental wellbeing describes how you are feeling and how well you can cope with day-to-day life. Our mental wellbeing can change from moment to moment but people with good mental health and wellbeing are usually able to:
- feel relatively confident in themselves and have positive self-esteem
- feel and express a range of emotions
- build and maintain good relationships with others
- feel engaged with the world around you
- live and work productively
- cope with the stresses of daily life
- adapt and manage in times of change and uncertainty.
There are steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing and the CJA Lifestyle doctors can help you with this. For example, we know that mental health is linked to having a healthy body. In fact, one study found that a prescribed course of exercise over time was more effective in mild to moderate depression than a course of anti-depressants.
Increased activity increases our endorphin levels – the ‘happy chemicals’ produced by our bodies – which heighten our mood. So, looking after your body can help to keep you mentally well. Making small, gradual changes can have a positive impact on your mental wellbeing.
Improving your diet may also help to improve your mood, increase your energy levels and help you think more clearly. Getting too little or too much sleep can have a big impact on how you feel so let us help you get into a better sleep routine.
If you have any known mental health disorders it is important to discuss this with your doctor. It does not mean you will not be able to have treatment, but it is important to be open and honest to keep you safe.
