What Is The Difference Between Ozempic and Saxenda Weight Loss Injections?
Advice From the Doctors at CJA Lifestyle
Online Medically Managed Weight Loss Programme
Ozempic (Semaglutide) and Saxenda (Liraglutide) weight loss injections have both been hailed by some as "wonder drugs" for their ability to reduce appetite and thus help with slimming and weight management. We offer both types of appetite suppressants at CJA Lifestyle and in this article we look at the difference between them, as well as their similarities and uses.
What is Ozempic®?
Ozempic is the brand name for Semaglutide, which was originally developed for the management of type-2 diabetes. Along with a calorie controlled diet and exercise, it can help you lose weight and is known as an appetite suppressant injection.
What is Saxenda®?
Saxenda is one of the brand names for Liraglutide. It is also an anti-diabetes medicine, used in the treatment of type-2 diabetes, as well as obesity and chronic weight management problems (alongside healthy diet and exercise).
How Does Ozempic Help You Lose Weight?
Ozempic works by helping the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high. It suppresses your appetite to help maintain weight loss by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone (GLP-1) which makes us feel “full”.
It also slows down food leaving the stomach, keeping you feeling fuller for longer, thus reducing the amount of calories consumed.
What Does Saxenda Do?
Sazenda works in similar way to Ozempic. Your hunger is regulated by a naturally occuring hormone known as glucagon-like-peptide (GLP-1). Saxenda works like GLP-1 by regulating your appetite, which can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight. Effectively, it uses the body's natural response to food to help you lose weight.
It should be used together with a healthy, reduced calorie diet and exercise plan. The CJA Lifestyle plan offers you a full doctor led package to help you on your weight loss journey.
How Do You Use An Ozempic Pen?
Ozempic should be taken once a week, on the same day each week, exactly as prescribed by your CJA Lifestyle doctor. Ozempic can be taken with or without food.
If you have missed a dose of Ozempic, take it as soon as possible within 5 days of the scheduled date. If more than 5 days have passed, wait until the next scheduled date.
Ozempic® is self-administered using it pre-filled pen. It is injected under the skin of your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Do not inject it into a muscle or vein. You should change your injection site with each injection and you should never share your Ozempic pen with anyone else.
How To Use The Saxenda Pen
Saxenda is a once-daily, self-injectable medicine, administered via an easy to use pen. We will provide full information on the correct dosage to use and you can take Saxenda at any time of the day which is convenient to you. It can be take with or without food.
Saxenda should be injected under the skin of our stomach, thigh or upper arm. Do not inject it into a muscle or vein. You should change your injection site with each injection and you should never share your pen with anyone else.
Can Anyone Use Ozempic Weight Loss Injections?

The CJA Lifestyle Plan, including weight loss injections, is aimed at patients with a BMI greater than of 30 or, if you have a weight-related illness, greater than 27.

Are There Any Side Effects With Ozempic?
Side effects can occur with any medication and your CJA Lifestyle doctor will monitor your progress when taking Ozempic carefully.
Some patients report nausea, abdominal pain, low blood sugar, diarrhoea, constipation and gas but these are usually short term symptoms which pass within a couple of days. Our doctors will discuss all possible side effects during your initial consultation.
What Are The Side Effects With Saxenda?
As with all weight loss injections, Saxenda is available on prescription so that your doctor can ensure it's the right medicine for you.
When taking Saxenda, patients can sometimes report nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, gas, skin reactions, headaches and fatigue. These symptoms are usually short-lived and pass within a few days. Your CJA doctor will talk to you in more detail about these at your initial consultation.
So What's the Difference Between Ozempic and Saxenda?
