Ozempic (Semaglutide) and Saxenda (Liraglutide) weight loss injections have both been hailed by some as "wonder drugs" for their ability to reduce appetite and thus help with slimming and weight management.   We offer both types of appetite suppressants at CJA Lifestyle and in this article we look at the difference between them, as well as their similarities and uses.

What is Ozempic®?

Ozempic is the brand name for Semaglutide, which was originally developed for the management of type-2 diabetes.  Along with a calorie controlled diet and exercise, it can help you lose weight and is known as an appetite suppressant injection.

What is Saxenda®?

Saxenda is one of the brand names for Liraglutide.  It is also an anti-diabetes medicine, used in the treatment of type-2 diabetes, as well as obesity and chronic weight management problems (alongside healthy diet and exercise).

How Does Ozempic Help You Lose Weight?

Ozempic works by helping the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when blood sugar levels are high.  It suppresses your appetite to help maintain weight loss by mimicking a naturally occurring hormone (GLP-1) which makes us feel “full”.

It also slows down food leaving the stomach, keeping you feeling fuller for longer, thus reducing the amount of calories consumed.

What Does Saxenda Do?

Sazenda works in similar way to Ozempic.  Your hunger is regulated by a naturally occuring hormone known as glucagon-like-peptide (GLP-1).  Saxenda works like GLP-1 by regulating your appetite, which can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight.  Effectively, it uses the body's natural response to food to help you lose weight.

It should be used together with a healthy, reduced calorie diet and exercise plan.  The CJA Lifestyle plan offers you a full doctor led package to help you on your weight loss journey.
